This narrative review examined lifestyle-based and adjunct therapeutic strategies for reproductive-aged women with polycystic ovary syndrome. The authors looked at dietary interventions, physical activity, nutraceuticals, traditional remedies, psychological interventions, and complementary cultural systems compared to conventional clinical treatments. No specific sample size or follow-up period was reported for these combined approaches.
The review found that dietary approaches were associated with improvements in metabolic parameters and insulin sensitivity. Structured physical activity demonstrated beneficial effects on metabolic and hormonal outcomes. Adjunct strategies showed potential to modulate insulin signalling, inflammation, and endocrine function. Psychological interventions were linked to alleviation of the psychosocial burden associated with the condition.
Safety concerns were not reported in this review. However, the authors note significant heterogeneity in the design and quality of the underlying studies. They caution that efficacy and safety of these strategies require cautious interpretation and further high-quality clinical validation. Effective management requires a balanced, evidence-based, and individualized approach where lifestyle strategies form the foundation but do not replace established care.
